Parish Picnic Update

When: 7:30 p.m., Tuesday May 22, 2012

Where: Parish Hall

Who: Everybody, PLEASE!!

Why: Only 24 days until the big day!!

Picnic Day is Wednesday, June 13. Come help us finalize plans for a fun day. Volunteer opportunities? Lots of them, please come to help make the final preparations easy work for everyone involved. ALL BOOTH CHAIRS PLEASE ATTEND.

Call Scott and Sharon Reibe, 486-5255

Picnic Envelopes:

This will be the last weekend picnic envelopes will be in the back of church for you to pick up. Please take the time to pick yours up personally so that we will not have to hand deliver them.

Grand Raffle Ticket Sellers Needed

We are looking for a few more people to join the “Seller’s Team”. We have many people who come back year after year to help the success of the parish picnic by selling Grand Raffle Tickets. It would be great to have some new representatives from St. Boniface and Sts. Mary and Joseph, as well as the parents of primary school aged children to help get the word out about the picnic’s Grand Raffle. An incentive to sellers is if you sell 9 tickets you get the 10th one free. You may choose to sell more or less than 10 tickets. At this point you will have a little over 3 weeks to sell them before picnic day. Tickets cost $100.00 each, but you can suggest to concerned buyers that they split a ticket any number of ways. Please call Tim or Pattie O’Connell at 352-8145 with any questions. “We’d love to have you on “The Team”!!

Booth Volunteers

Information was sent home through the school website as to which booths your child’s class will be sponsoring. Please contact the booth chairperson as soon as possible to volunteer your time on picnic day. Working in the booths is a good way to meet many new people, take a minute to sit after chasing your kids around all day, have a place for your kids to find you and finally, help the parish have a fun day! Please be generous with your time.

Prayer for Mothers Everywhere

In Africa, Asia, the Americas and Europe …
We give thanks for mothers everywhere.

When times are hard, in situations of suffering …
We give thanks for the sacrifices mothers make each day for their children.

For their examples of love, caring, and hope …
We give thanks for their generosity, their compassion and their hope for the future.

In the Congo, Iraq, Uganda, Palestine, Colombia …
We remember mothers in our global community who care for their children as guns of war are heard.

In Zimbabwe, India, Guyana, Belize, Botswana …
We remember mothers as sicknesses such as AIDS and malaria ravage their lands.

In Haiti, Burundi, Eritrea, Cambodia, Guatemala …
We remember mothers whose access to food and water is scarce.

In Sudan, Sri Lanka, Somalia, Afghanistan ….
We remember mothers who bundled up their children, fled their homes, and became refugees. Mary, Mother of God, embrace all mothers, give them strength and courage and mother their spirits so they can continue to heal the wounds of their children and of the world. We give thanks for mothers everywhere.

Amen.

A special thank you for Andrew

We extend a sincere thank you and a farewell blessing to our seminarian Andrew Walsh. Andrew has been with us since last fall as part of his seminary training. He has been visiting and taking communion to some of our parishioners who are homebound, hospitalized or for various reasons unable to attend Sunday Mass. Our parish has been blessed with his kind and gentle ministry.

As the academic year comes to an end at the seminary, Andrews’s time with us has also come to an end. This coming Wednesday will be Andrew’s last day of visitation to our parishioners. Please keep him in prayer as he continues on his journey to the priesthood. May God’s blessing go with you Andrew, and thank you once again for your dedicated ministry to our parish.

Peace,

The Frog’s Tail

Once upon a time, when God created all the animals, Frog was the only one without a tail. The other animals made fun of the tailless Frog, making Frog feel inferior and ugly.

So Frog begged God for a tail. God listened to Frog’s please and agreed to give Frog a tail with one condition — that Frog would watch over God’s special pond. Frog happily agreed.

Soon a terrible drought seized the area and God’s special pond was the only watering hole form many miles. Creatures from all over the world came to Frog’s new home in need of water. But Frog was very full of himself with his new long tail and his powerful position as keeper of the Lord’s only watering hole. Frog’s sense of self-importance and entitlement had mushroomed. And since he had never forgotten how the other creatures used to tease him, Frog, did not hesitate to turn away every animal from the pond without so much as a sip.

Soon word of Frog’s antics reached God, who decided to see for himself. As God approached the water’s edge, he heard Frog shout; “Whoever you are, move along! This water is not for you! God gave me this beautiful pond to do with as I see fit — because I am the most beautiful of all creatures!”

When Frog realized it was God coming to the pond, it was too late. God exiled Frog from the pond and took away his tail. Now, each spring, every frog is born a tadpole with a long tail — but as these children of Frog grow, the tail shrinks until it disappears as a lesson in humility and selflessness.

╬ The Gospel of The Good Shepherd is a lesson in leadership — leadership that is centered in humble service to others. Christ calls us to realize that the gifts, talents and abilities we have received have been entrusted to us, not for our own profit or honor, but to fulfill our vocations as “good shepherds”: to seek out and bring back the lost, the scattered and forgotten; to enable people to move beyond their fears and doubts and realize their own gifts and talents; to bring the peace and justice of God into our own relationships and communities. To embrace the model of the Good
Shepherd is to realize that every person of the “one fold” possesses the sacred dignity of being children of God and to rejoice in knowing that in serving others we are God. ╬
