Dear parents, teachers, and friends of SSP School,
Happy Friday! Welcome to the weekend, welcome to December, and Happy Advent Eve-Eve!
Advent begins this Sunday. The students, teachers, and I will begin with some time-honored SSP Advent traditions on Monday (one is a newer tradition, only four years old; however, the bell ringing could be half a century or more in practice!). We will gather as a school community for a Living Advent Wreath prayer service on Monday morning. The Advent candle is an old symbol that reminds us of the rapid approach of the coming of Jesus at Christmas. Most students are asked to wear a green top to represent the holly leaves of the Advent wreath. Teachers dressed in red are the holly berries. Student leaders (STUCO and NJHS) are asked to wear a pink or purple top to represent the four Advent candles (Hope, Peace, Love, and Joy). We will recall how anxiously we await Jesus to come to us during Advent.
(Monday is a full dress if keeping to the theme of student tops: green, pink, or purple).
I hope to see you at the Girl Scouts’ S’Mores with Santa event tonight. I can’t wait to hear the Choral Choir belt out Christmas tunes; they've been practicing hard with Drs. Borgmeyer! I am ready for this season.
Have a blessed weekend and a great start to the Advent season!
