Title I Program
This special event is held prior to the the First Communion celebration and is for the 2nd grade students and their parents. Families will receive more information about this from the 2nd grade teacher as the children prepare for First Communion.
Students in Grades 5-8 may choose to be altar servers for daily and / or weekend Masses. Contact Mary Regan for more information.
During Catholic Schools Week, art is displayed at one of the local shopping malls. Our school also has its own art fair in the spring that correlates with Donut Sunday (first Sunday of the month) or another event.
Band is offered at an additional cost for students in Grades 4-8. Instruction takes place during the school day.
Speech meets are open to students in Grades 5-8. There are three preliminary meets per year held on Saturdays at area Catholic grade schools. The final meet, which honors the highest-placing contestants, is held at an area high school. Students try out after school or during a break in class time, and team assignments are made the day after tryouts. Parents and teachers are involved as coaches and judges. This program teaches responsibility and gives students practice speaking in front of an audience.
General Mills has a program which sends our school cash for digital "box tops." Participants must download the Box Tops app and scan receipts for the purchase of qualifying products within 14 days for SSP to get credit.
This is a week-long celebration that begins on the last Sunday of January. The week features special activities each day that encourage children, parents, teachers, and the parish family to commemorate the gifts of Catholic education.
Dr. David and Dr. Anne Borgmeyer moderate the Choral Club, which is open to students in Grades 3-8. They begin practicing for Christmas performances in the middle of November. They may go Christmas caroling at nursing homes, parish organizations, and other groups who request a performance. They also join the parish adult choir in providing music at the Christmas Eve Vigil Mass.
This event, which typically happens at the end of the last school day before Christmas break, features the Choral Club and the band. All classes do not perform at this event.
The 8th Grade students are involved in the production of a play under the direction of an experienced adult. Students sell advertisements for the printed program, make posters promoting the play, act in the production, and work backstage. Aside from providing on-stage experience and being a team-building activity, the play serves as a fundraiser, which helps fund 8th grade events such as graduation and the mystery trip. All 8th grade parents are expected to volunteer to help in some manner.

This periodic meetings allow for teachers and staff to come together for planning, training, professional development, or camaraderie. School dismisses at noon on these days.
Field Day is scheduled on a Friday in May. Carondelet Park may be used in weather permits. This activity is planned and carried out by parents working with teachers. All Field Day activities are planned with the idea that students enjoy a spring day of games without being highly competitive.
Each year all students have the opportunity to participate in the American Heart Association's Kids' Heart Challenge event. This takes place on a school day during PE clas. The money collected through pledges (optional) goes to the American Heart Association for heart disease research. This activity is planned and monitored by the PE teacher (with teachers and parent volunteers as needed).
Mission Carnival is held on the afternoon shortly before Ash Wednesday. Tickets for games and refreshments may be purchased in advance or on that day. Mission Carnival has two goals -- to raise money for missions, and to give 8th grade students the opportunity to learn how to plan and execute an event. The 8th grade students decide which games are to be played, make decoration, run games, help with the purchase of prizes, send out letters requesting donations, and clean up after the carnival.
The Archdiocesan Song Festival is held in the spring. Our school performs a few songs at a host school along with four or five other schools. Drs. Borgmeyer rehearse with the grades selected to participate. The Archdiocese rotates through all the grades, assigning two grades per year, so that all students will participate twice over the course of their elementary school years.
Drs. Borgmeyer direct each class in the performance of a song at our own all-school Music Sharing. Each class performs, and parents, grandparents, and friends are encouraged to attend. The band also performs. The event typically takes place at the end of a school day in mid-May.
Students are allowed to dress out of uniform for several reaons, some of which include:
The biggest fundraiser of the year takes place on the second Wednesday in June. It is a carnival on the parish and school grounds which features a parade, music, food, games, and rides.
A special weeklong field trip is held in the spring for 6th Graders at an off-site campground. Students spend the week with their own classmates (and occasionally share the camp with other schools). Counselors are provided by the camp. Students may raise funds to defray the cost of camp.
This is a program paid for by the federal government and run by a private company (Catapult Learning), which provides additional instruction in the core subjects to students who qualify. Instruction takes place during the school day.
