Dear parents, teachers, and friends of SSP School,
Happy Friday, welcome to the weekend and the month of May! How did the last 3 weeks of school get upon us so quickly? We still have much living left to do before the last day of school. Every day/week is chock full of activities and excitement. Next week is Teacher Appreciation Week, and at the week’s end, Field Day! Field Day is a half day of school with dismissal at Noon. If you plan on using Aftercare that day, please RSVP using the following link: https://docs.google.com/forms/
We had a little excitement today around campus about mid-morning. Mr. Wiley supervised a lighting installation (revision) on the Bell Tower lot. Our neighbor, who has not been shy of voicing their displeasure about our lighting scheme, had a few words to express about the procedure. In a nutshell version of this, two squad cars were dispensed to maintain the peace. Our children were never in harm’s way; morning primary recess was held in the gym. I always like to keep our community in the loop (especially when first responders are involved).
One of the first courses in my Master of Ed Admin degree was community relations. This course is vital in the daily working of a school and our neighborhood. SSP always tries to be a good neighbor. Sometimes we are successful; other times, we find areas of growth. Besides the ongoing lighting debate, I have been contacted several times asking our parents to be better neighbors. I get constant requests to ask parents not to block the street or driveways or make illegal U-turns at PM pickup. Most of us do a phenomenal job at this. Our neighbors prefer that we use our spacious parking lots. However, SSP is located on a public street. These spots are open to all drivers. My latest request from neighbors has been to ask parents not to let our children climb trees (especially in front of the Rectory) and jump off elevated walls. These, of course, are for the safety of all. I appreciate any efforts that you can make to help the school be better neighbors in our community.
I appreciate the constant support you afford me and all our great staff. Please take a few moments to offer words of affirmation to our world-class educators during Teacher Appreciation Week. Have a great weekend, and God’s Peace.
